Hi,

I am running an alternative to MS Exchange Public Folders called CodeTwo Public folders with an additional add-in called CodeTwo Cat Man that allows me to separately define private and public categories and to share the public ones with all the Public Folder uses. By creating a category for each Public Folder I am able to select the relevant Public Categories that apply to each email that I send (if any). I have set up "file copy on send" rule that causes Outlook to post a copy of that message directly into the relevant Public Folder on sending, but leaving the original in my Sent Items.

However, although I am only using the free-version of Categorize Plus, which gives a great User Interface for selecting categories for emails received or filed, there is no equivalent support for selecting categories when sending emails i.e. one has to use the standard Message Options / Categories menu sequence to access them.  It would be great if there was a way have equivalent access to dockable category palette when sending email too.

Secondly I discovered that the default Categorize Plus options automatically disable or override the default Outlook rules and that the Outlook rules only work if all of the check boxes in the Categorize Plus Options are unticked. Is this normal behaviour?  The Categorize Plus Category Actions are a lot easier to use than the standard Outlook rules but are also a lot more restricted in functionality (at least in the free version).

I do like the UI - but it just needs enhancing to support sending as well as received emails.

Regards,

Robin

Hello Robin,

Yes, you are correct, the free version of Categorize Plus does not include the ability to assign categories when composing an email before the email is sent.  However, the Professional version does include the option to install the Categorize Plus drop down menu in the Outlook Ribbon Bar for items that you are composing, which allows the user to categorize items before they are sent.  This is the only option available in Categorize Plus for categorizing items while you are composing the items.

Regarding the Categorize Plus actions overriding the Outlook rules, first please be sure that you have installed the latest version of Categorize Plus from our website, since the latest version includes improvements for working with Outlook rules.  If that does not solve the problem, then please provide a specific example of what you are referring to.  For most cases, the Outlook rules and the Categorize Plus actions will work together, but there may be exceptions that I am not aware of.  Therefore, it would help if you can provide more details.

Thanks.
