Hi,

i have been waiting for this new release - "Categorize Plus now supports Outlook 2010" for almost an year, but...

After installation, add-in is not loaded in Outlook 2010 «Not Loaded. A runtime error occurred during the loading of the COM Add-in».

I've tried to repair, reinstall but without success.

Could you please help?

Note: I've notice that during installation process there are references only to outlook 2003 and 2007.

Best Regards

Which version are you installing?

The most recent Beta version is 2.1.4 and was just uploaded in the past hour.  If you are using an earlier version of the Beta release, then please try downloading again and re-installing the latest version.

Let me know if you continue to experience any problems.

And thanks for letting me know about the references to Outlook 2003 and 2007 during the installation process.  I still need to update the text in the installer to reference Outlook 2010.  I will update this in the next beta release.

I've tried to reinstall (now) version 2.1.4, but with same error, even after reboot.

Through Outlook, if i try to add add-in manually i've got: « ... categorizeplus.dll is not a valid Office Add-in»

Hello,

You mentioned that you have tried repairing, reinstalling and even re-booting your computer, but have you tried repairing or reinstalling after rebooting your computer?  Sometimes simply repairing after rebooting is sufficient to solve the problem, but if that does not work, then the surest way to fix a load error is the following...

  • Shutdown Outlook.
  • Uninstall Categorize Plus.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Wait for your computer to completely finish restarting.
  • Reinstall Categorize Plus.
  • Restart Outlook.

By the way, rest assured that the latest download installs a valid Office Add-in.  Before uploading a new installer I always test the installer on multiple computers, in multiple operating systems and in multiple versions of Outlook.

Specifically, for this release I tested the following...

  • Two different computers.
  • In Windows XP, Vista and Win 7.
  • In Outlook 2010, 2007 and 2003.

In each scenario, the latest release installed successfully without any load errors.

Therefore, please try my suggestions above and let me know if you continue to experience load errors.

Best regards

Hello,

i found out why i can't install addin correctly. I'm using Outlook 2010 in a Windows 7-64bits version.

Addin works correctly only in a Windows 7-32bits version.

Are you going to deploy a version for  Windows 7-64bits version? (Hope so  laughing7)

Kind Regards

Actually Categorize Plus works perfectly in Win 7 64-bit.  When I mentioned that I had tested the latest release in Win 7 it was in the 64-bit version.  This latest release was specifically tested by me and confirmed to work in the following systems ...

  • Outlook 2003 in Windows XP
  • Outlook 2010 in Windows Vista (32-bit)
  • Outlook 2007 in Windows 7 (64-bit)
  • Outlook 2010 in Windows 7 (64-bit)

The only limitation is that you need to be running the 32-bit version of Outlook 2010.

In addition, the 32-bit version of Outlook 2010 is installed by default whenever users install Outlook 2010, even if users install Outlook 2010 in Win 7 (64-bit).  Microsoft installs the 32-bit version by default in order to ensure compatibility with 32-bit add-ins.  Therefore, the user must specifically override the default installation in order to install the 64-bit version of Outlook 2010.  You can confirm that you are running the 32-bit version of Outlook 2010 by selecting "File" - > "Help" from within Outlook.

Therefore, I do not think that the problem is that you are using the 64-bit version of Win 7.  Have you tried what I suggested in my last post to resolve the problem?

Well that explains it.  Eventually I hope to launch a 64-bit version of CP, but it will not be for awhile.  I expect maybe this summer.

By the way, have you considered installing the 32-bit version of Office?  A strong case can be made for doing so.  This is even what Microsoft recommends.  Apparently, according to Microsoft, the 64-bit version offers no obvious performance improvement compared to the 32-bit version.  The only reason they claim to install the 64-bit version is if you use Excel spreadsheets that are larger than 2gb.

I have posted two links below from the Microsoft website that discusses this topic in detail.

The first website provides the following guidelines for which version to install.

Quote
The recommendations for which edition of Office 2010 to install are as follows:

If users in your organization depend on existing extensions to Office, such as ActiveX controls, third-party add-ins, in-house solutions built on previous versions of Office, or 32-bit versions of programs that interface directly with Office, we recommend that you install 32-bit (x86) Office 2010 (the default installation) on computers that are running both 32-bit and 64-bit supported Windows operating systems.

If some users in your organization are Excel expert users who work with Excel spreadsheets that are larger than 2 gigabytes (GB), they can install the 64-bit (x64) edition of Office 2010.

The second website also explains that if users install the 64-bit version of Office, then they will also lose compatibility with some features of other Microsoft products.  For example, the website states ...

Quote
If you install the 64-bit version of Office, certain Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 features that involve integration with Outlook are lost. For example, you cannot right-click a Communicator contact to schedule a meeting, send an e-mail message, or find previous conversations.

Anyway, it might be something to consider.

Once I have more details regarding the release of a 64-bit version of CP, then I will post a reply to this thread.
